Utility Excavation

Sewer and Water Line Excavation in Salt Lake County, UT

When a sewer or water line is broken, collapsed or too far gone to repair from the inside, the pipe has to be dug up and replaced. Acme Sewer & Drain Cleaning excavates and replaces sewer and water lines for homes and commercial properties across Salt Lake County and the Wasatch Front.

We start with a camera inspection and line locating to find the exact problem and how deep the pipe is, then dig only where we need to. Call (801) 930-8000.

Trenchless Options: Repair or Replace Without Digging

Sewer pipe repair. Not every damaged sewer line has to be dug up. When the pipe is cracked, offset or root-damaged but still in place, we can often repair that section from the inside with a resin-coated fiberglass liner cured with UV light. There is no trench across your lawn, driveway or floor. See how our trenchless Sewer Pipe Repair works.

Water lines. Through our trenchless partner, we can also replace a water service line without trenching the whole yard. A boring tool is driven underground from one pit to another and pulls the new line through, so your lawn, landscaping and driveway stay in place.

If the pipe has collapsed or is too far gone for a liner, we dig and replace it. The camera inspection tells us which one your line needs.

What We Excavate and Replace

  • Spot repairs, when only a small area of the line has failed
  • Sewer mains and building sewer lines
  • Collapsed, offset or root-damaged sewer pipe
  • Old Orangeburg, clay and cast iron pipe
  • New sewer line installs
  • Water service lines and water mains

Sometimes only a small area of the line has failed. When that is the case, we dig only that section and repair it, instead of replacing the whole line. The camera inspection shows how far the damage goes, so you only pay for the repair your line needs.

How an Excavation Job Goes

  1. Find the problem. A camera inspection and line locating show where the pipe has failed and how deep it is.
  2. Call before we dig. Underground utilities are marked through Blue Stakes of Utah (811) before any digging starts.
  3. Dig and replace. We dig with excavators and shovels, only where needed, and install new pipe on a gravel bed.
  4. Backfill and compact. The trench is filled and compacted so the ground settles properly.

Add a Cleanout While the Line Is Open

When the pipe is already exposed, it is the easiest and cheapest time to add a cleanout. A cleanout is a capped access point on the sewer line. It lets us run a drain machine, hydro jetter or camera straight into the line, without pulling a toilet or working through the roof.

A double cleanout gives access in both directions, toward the house and toward the street, so the line can be cleaned and inspected both ways. Future drain cleaning is faster and easier, and it can cost less.

The photos below show three cleanouts installed at a commercial location with a grinder pump.

What It Costs

Cost depends on how deep the pipe is, how long the run is, and what is on top of it, such as lawn, concrete or asphalt. We give you a price after the inspection and before any digging starts. Call (801) 930-8000.
